Plans for Kate (Charlotte Rampling) and Geoff (Tom Courtenay) Mercers 45th anniversary party are thrown into turmoil at the arrival of a letter informing Geoff that the body of his girlfriend Katya has been recovered from the mountain where she fell to her death 50 years ago. Shaken, Geoff withdraws, taking inventory of memories long shelved away. The news affects Kate just as deeply, as Geoffs state of distraction breeds uncertainty and increasingly angrier emotions.
