Antarctica: A Year on Ice is their story. Completely isolated from the rest of the world, enduring months of unending darkness, Antarctic residents experience firsthand the beauty and brutality of the most severe environment on Earth. From everyday moments of work and laughter to holiday celebrations and even the filmmaker’s own wedding, Antarctica: A Year on Ice shows a determined community thriving in a world most people will never know. Boasting footage gathered over 15 years, including nine winters spent in 24-hour darkness, this unique documentary speaks to the planet’s natural wonders, humanity’s thirst for adventure and the emotional journey that accompanies a year spent on the ice. Intrepid filmmaker/photographer Anthony Powell gives testament to both the spirit of Antarctic culture and the breathtaking splendor contained within the last pristine wilderness left on the planet.

Starring Eddie Redmayne (“Les Miserables”) and Felicity Jones (“The Amazing Spider-Man 2”), this is the extraordinary story of one of the world’s greatest living minds, the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who falls deeply in love with fellow Cambridge student Jane Wilde. Together, they defy impossible odds, breaking new ground in medicine and science, and achieving more than they could ever have dreamed. The film is based on the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, by Jane Hawking, and is directed by Academy Award winner James Marsh (“Man on Wire”).

Jon Stewart (of The Daily Show) makes a remarkable directing debut with Rosewater, the story of Tehran-born Maziar Bahari (Gael Garcia Bernal), a broadcast journalist living in London, who returns to Tehran to cover the controversial 2009 Presidential election, and is arrested. Based on Bahari’s best-selling memoir.

The critically-acclaimed black comedy Birdman tells the story of a washed-up actor (Michael Keaton)-famous for portraying an iconic superhero-as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career and himself. Also starring Zach Galifianakis, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts and Edward Norton, Birdman is directed and co-written by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Biutiful, Babel, 21 Grams, Amores Perros).

April, 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, and with a rookie soldier thrust into their platoon, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.

Screenwriter Hossein Amini (Drive, The Wings of the Dove) makes a stylish directing debut with this sleek thriller set in Greece and Istanbul in 1962. Intrigue begins at the Parthenon when a glamorous, wealthy American couplethe charismatic Chester MacFarland (Viggo Mortensen) and his alluring young wife Collete (Kirsten Dunst)meet Rydal (Oscar Isaac, Inside Llewyn Davis), a Greek-speaking American who is working as a tour guide, scamming female tourists on the side. Instead of becoming his latest marks, the two befriend him, but a murder at the couple’s hotel puts all three on the run together and creates a precarious bond between them as the trio’s allegiance is put to the test. Their journey takes them from Greece to Turkey, and to a dramatic finale played out in the back alleys of Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Patricia Highsmith (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Strangers on a Train).

Pride is an inspirational comedy based on a true story about finding hope and friendship where you least expect it. It’s the summer of 1984, Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike, prompting a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists to raise money to support the strikers’ families. Initially rebuffed by the Union, the group identifies a tiny mining village in Wales and sets off to make their donation in person. As the strike drags on, the two groups discover that standing together makes for the strongest union of all. Starring Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West and Paddy Considine, Pride is directed by Matthew Warchus.
